ok, they caught me off guard.
two young men.
they said, "hello we're bible students in the neighborhood with the latest issues of the watchtower and awake.".
Since I did my 'points to talk about' sheet they've not been back.
Let us know how you get on!

Angharad !
My dad was half killed in the stampede.
I only went to that last assembly because my JW girlfriend wanted me to go. I'd stopped going to meetings and she said I had to go back if we were to stay together. That last assembly was the decider - so we broke up a week later!
NoMoreJW - don't remember the rancid beef. You must be a great saleswoman!

Hello NoMoreJW !
There must have been something about that '93 Maine Road assembly. I know quite a few people as well as myself who never went to another one.
Did you do the Belle Vue bowling thing ??
Simon - have you any pubs in mind for that Sunday pint ??

Simon,
I think you're right - we must have crossed paths in the past, especially if you did the Belle Vue thing every Sunday like I did. And the idea of a pub lunch sounds great as well. I'll be in touch!

Hi there 203girl.
I've been out 10 years so you left just after me.
Maine Road assemblies, Belle Vue bowling, Altrincham skating, and those Circuit assemblies at Northenden. Those were the days.
Welcome on board!
dinosaurs have always fasinated me.when i was a member of jw's they could never explain anything about there existence to me.i have never seen mention of them in the bible.history and fossil remains prove that they did exist.what destroyed them really?was it the flood?
?a meteor??
?how long ago?how old are they?.
sOOner -
It's only from what I remember and maybe someone else has more info than me - but yes JWs believe the 7th day or day of rest was another 7000 years which means all 7 days equalled 49,000 years.
They get the 7,000 year long day by saying that the day of rest = 6000 years from Adam to now (roughly) plus the 1000 years of Christ's millenium. So if the day of rest is 7,000 years then that must be the length of the other days.
But the article I read on dinosaurs never mentioned the length of the creative days so I can only assume the JWs have gone off the idea.

Salud's right.
JW's believe the Earth and the Universe is billions of years old, it's life on Earth which is only thousands of years old. When I went to meetings they believed that each creative day was 7000 years in length so the six creative days lasted 42,000 years.
My mother gave me an Awake a few years ago with an article about dinosaurs in it. I can't remember the date of the issue but maybe someone else on this board can. What I found interesting about this article was not what it said but what it didn't say. In previous articles about fossils the society had gone to great lengths to try to discredit dating methods. The article about dinosaurs didn't mention dating methods once.
The bible doesn't mention dinosaurs because the bible writers didn't know they existed.
i've spent a lot of time on allmusic.com and it amazes me how much nirvana is mentioned when the reviewers rate other albums.
so its a no brainer that nirvana's work should probably have a place in every rock collection, but what are some other albums every rock fan should listen to if not own.
.
Lovsinner -
It's great you love Janes Addiction AND Frank Sinatra !!
I have no problems saying my faves are Radiohead, Led Zep, U2 AND Abba .
The Cult - they were great - I had many a drunken night at college dancing to She Sells Sanctuary. Unfortunately british bands are now mainly crap. I read in the paper this week that in 1985 british music accounted for 40% of record sales in the US. In 2001 this had become 0.2%.
What's happened to the british music industry??
We all list Led Zep, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, Stones, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd etc etc as some of our favourites. We Brits now have to suffer Westlife and Steps (boy/girl bands).
Sorry - beginning to rant... beginning to get drunk...

Nobody's mentioned Oasis !
O.k. they may be a couple of Mancunian tossers but 'What's the Story Morning Glory' is the best rock album of the nineties.
Others,
Radiohead - OK Computer and The Bends.
Metallica - Metallica. 'Nothing Else Matters' - Brilliant.
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic
The Fall and Rise of Ziggy Stardust - Bowie
U2 - Achtung baby - Their best album
"Wings - The band The Beatles could have been!" - Alan Partridge
